EU Regulations Reshape Tableware Industry​

The tableware industry in Europe is undergoing a major transformation, spurred by new EU regulations. In 2025, the EU updated the 《Plastic Food Contact Materials Regulation》, which has far - reaching implications. The ban on BPA, effective from January, has completely prohibited its use in all food - contact materials. Stricter regulations for recycled plastic and new requirements for migration and labeling of reusable tableware have also been introduced.​
While the focus is predominantly on plastic, wooden tableware is not immune to these changes. Manufacturers now have to ensure that the raw materials are pure, with wood sourced from sustainable forests and free from harmful chemicals. Supply chain transparency has become a cornerstone, and accurate labeling is now mandatory. Although the regulations provide a transition period, businesses must act swiftly. They need to thoroughly review their product formulations, conduct comprehensive tests, and ensure full compliance. Failure to do so could lead to market disruptions, especially as the demand for compliant and sustainable tableware continues its upward trajectory in the European market.
